UN Round Table Talks: WFWPI UN Office - Vienna Talks of Peace from Homes to People-to-people Diplomacy

Peace Begins with Responsible Parenting and Ends in People-to-people Diplomacy

At the UN Roundtable podcast with WFWPI Vienna, discussions ranged far and wide about peace. First, there was WFWPI UN Office - Vienna's participation at the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) which addresses global crime issues like human trafficking and nuclear warfare.

A side event titled 'It takes a village to raise a child' on June 3, 2026 was well-attended. It roots out the problem of high crimes as having to do with families and how children are being raised. Foremost in the podcast conversation was the need to educate parents on the ideal ways of child-raising. A book project on guide to parenting of sorts, is in the offing, as readily agreed on.

Guest Hala Abusaris said peace in Palestine is achieved on the ground where respect on racial and religious diversity is achieved by people, not by governments. Hala, a youth ambassador for peace who participated in Vienna's debate for peace, said she has learned to listen to various points of view in order to reach a common understanding.

"There is hope when we talk and listen," she said.

Listen to our podcast here, facilitated by UN Relations director Merly Barrete Barlaan and participated by Renate Amesbauer, Maria Reihl, Lilly Gundacker, Merle Blaschke, Hala Abusaris, and Marivir Montebon.
