Dr. Dely Go, Global Peace Ambassador: A Life of Determination, Hardwork, Faith, and Fairness

By Dr. Marivir Montebon

New York - Global Woman Peace Ambassador Dr. Dely Go is quiet a staple in the local communities in the East Coast of the US.

An accomplished businesswoman, registered nurse, educator, and community and global leader, she comes full circle with WFWP as current peace ambassador and awardee for her humanitarian work in 1998.

Her young children, then taking up violin classes with children whose European parents were affiliated with WFWP, had innocently endorsed their mother to be recognized for her humanitarian work.

"A European couple approached me to receive an award from WFWP. Of course, I accepted the honor, especially because it was endorsed by my children," she said.

Dr. Go's memory of that encounter was vague as she recalled her long journey in humanitarian work. She is a Filipino with Chinese and Japanese parentage.

At the Roundtable Talk of WFWPI hosted by Merly Barlaan, WFWPI UN Relations Offices director and Vice President for Administration, Dr. Go shares her life of determination,  healing, and faith.

After the violent murder of her parents-in-law in Cebu, her entire family had to leave their home and flourishing business and start anew in New Jersey.

The trauma and the cultural and economic adjustment needed were the major challenges she had to deal with in her young life. There was no other way but to be strong for her husband and two young children.

Dr. Go attributes it to her faith that she survived the early trials as an immigrant family in the early 1980s.

She looks back at the kindness of the late Sr. Jane Bradey who noticed that she'd go to the hospital chapel everyday at work to cry.

Sr. Jane, a top leader at the hospital, listened to her story and introduced her to volunteer humanitarian work abroad. "She's my angel to channel my own trauma by helping others," remarked Dr. Go.

Dr. Go's early humanitarian work shaped the sensitivity of her own children who saw young kids like them as having  less material privileges in life.

They learned to think of these kids and send them toys during our missions. These toys were heavy but I'd bring them with me because my children packed them.

Dr. Go has successfully established her nursing agency. Both nurses and hospitals are satisfied with her business ethic, providing substantial rates to the nurses as hospitals and care facilities get highly trained and dedicated Filipino nurses.

At this time in life, Dr. Go continues her humanitarian and leadership roles. She provided support to environmental sustainability programs and education worldwide.

At the WFWPI podcast, her key message to the public are determination, work hard, and faith in God.

As a businesswoman, one should have a business plan to serve as a road map to reach one's goals, she said.

As a woman, wife, and mother, it's all about kindness and generosity,  traits which makes her look back with gratitude her parents and yes, Sr. Jane Bradey.
