"YOUTH INITIATIVE" LAUNCH TALK, WFWP UN Offices (Geneva and Vienna)

The Youth Initiative is a forward-looking  initiative to engage youth and empower them for their potential to influence peace-building and leadership processes with a focus on gender equality and other relevant themes. The Youth Initiative aims to nurture young innovation and vitality to work on important platforms and projects through partnership with international organization and their mandates, advocacy campaigns, research projects, skills training, fieldwork, and event management. 

This panel discussion is the first event and is a youth-led event focusing on peacebuilding and security and the importance of the participation of young women and girls. The theme focuses on the UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 (2015)  which identifies five key pillars for action: participation, protection, prevention, partnerships and disengagement, and reintegration. This landmark resolution urges Member States to give youth a greater voice in decision-making at the local, national, regional, and international levels and to consider setting up mechanisms that would enable young people to participate meaningfully in peace processes.
