On March 19, 2023, the Women’s Federation for World Peace Malaysia celebrated International Women's Day (IWD) in a warm and exciting event themed, "Bringing Cultures Together - Friendship and Food." The celebration gathered about 70 participants who were dressed elegantly in traditional clothes such as cheongsam, kebaya, saree, yukata and hanbok.

In the welcoming remarks, the President of WFWP Malaysia, Ms. Lina Cheng said, "IWD is a time to celebrate the achievements of women, whether social, political, economical or cultural.” She continued, “When we embrace equity we embrace diversity, and we embrace inclusion. Each one of us can actively support and embrace equity within our own sphere of influence. This will forge harmony and unity and help drive success for all."

“#EmbraceEquity" is the theme for IWD 2023, which sheds light on the need to go beyond equal opportunities and understand the differences in individual circumstances. The program started off with a fun ice breaker session led by the lively emcee, Ms. Jenisse, where participants got to interact and know more about one another by exchanging positive compliments.

The audience also enjoyed a highly energetic modern dance performance by the Teletubbies, a group of young and dynamic high school students. This was followed by the main highlight of the event, a cooking demonstration by Ms. Pil Hyo Shin, who shared the recipe of cooking the popular and savory Korean dish, japchae (stirred fried glass noodles).

The next chef was Ms. Yumiko Osaka, who demonstrated the making of the all-time favorite Japanese rolled sushi. To celebrate friendship and unity in diversity, a choir group led by Ms. Seok Ping Chan presented the song "Friendship" in two languages.

The event concluded with a potluck of different varieties of food and cakes from various cultures. WFWP Malaysia expressed that they are very grateful and blessed to be living in a multicultural community that embraces peace and harmony.
