WFWP Biennial Report 2005-2006
Volunteer Activities & International Service Projects

Foreword

The Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP) is an NGO, founded in 1992 upon the motto, Humankind is a Family living in one Home, the Earth. Since 1994, it has dispatched volunteers worldwide, to implement development assistance activities aimed at gfreedom from poverty, based on local needs.

As a UN NGO, WFWP has endeavored especially since 2000, to contribute to the attainment of the "Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)," which are common, basic goals for the international society in the 21st century.

The reasons why the MDGs are innovative are that they set a clear deadline of 2015 and concrete numeric targets, and that they emphasize not only the self-help efforts of developing countries, but also the responsibility of support by advanced countries. The MDGs focus on problems found in daily family life that just can not be resolved due to poverty especially problems which are closely linked to the life of WOMEN and CHILDREN. In advanced countries, eating three meals a day, drinking safe water, and getting medical aid when we are sick, are taken for granted. However, we must be aware that billions in this world still cannot have these things. This is indeed a crisis of the Earth, and if these issues are not resolved, poverty will easily lead to crime and terrorism. Without attaining the MDGs, true world peace can not be realized.

This report is a summary of part of the activities in which volunteers dispatched by WFWP Japan and WFWP members of the respective countries cooperated together, from 2005 to 2006. It is our hope that the summary will provide a better understanding of our engagement in the attainment of the MDGs.
