WFWPI Virtual Cafe “Christmas Cookie Baking Class”

It's hard to believe, but the holiday season is upon us. Christmas is around the corner! Many things will be different this season, but Christmas cookies have never been canceled.

On Friday, December 17, Women’s Federation for World Peace International (WFWPI) hosted its sixth “WFWPI Virtual Café,” where 25 participants from around the world took part in a baking class through Zoom.

The instructor was Ms. Yuri Kyung, a young professional from Korea. She is a nationally certified baking technician and currently works at Seumusup Bakery in Gangwon-do. She often volunteers to hold one-day baking classes in the local community and at the Chuncheon branch of the Red Cross, teaching people how to make her favorite lemon muffins and chocolate cookies.

The event was held both in Korean and English and began with a Christmas song that put the participants in a festive mood. The program was followed by words from Dr. Paris Moon, WFWPI International Secretary General, who introduced the purpose of the WFWPI Virtual Café as an online bimonthly implementation hosted by WFWPI HQ for WFWP leaders, members and guests to gather in a hospitable space to empower women and youth, explore issues and questions that matter, encourage everyone’s contributions, connect diverse perspectives, listen together for insights and share collective discoveries. She said, “I hope that all participants will enjoy their time today and gain new knowledge and skills for preparing for Christmas.”

This baking class became a fun virtual platform for families, especially mothers and children to join and bake together with very simple and fun recipes called Rudolph Chocolate Chip Cookies and S'mores Cookies. As Ms. Kyung demonstrated baking in front of the camera live, the participants were able to follow the step-by-step instructions. After removing the freshly baked cookies from the oven, she showed the audience how to decorate them with pretzels, chocolate pens and marshmallows.

Ms. Kyung ended the session by recommending baking as a fun family activity for this holiday season and wishing all participants a “sweet” Merry Christmas. Attached are the pictures of cookies prepared by the participants.
