WFWP Fiji Celebrate International Women's Day 2022

Written by: Sharila Lazarus

It was the first time in recent years, the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Fiji celebrated International Women's Day with close to 30 women from various sectors. Though Fiji hasn’t been spared of the deadly pandemic, as cases gradually slowed down, we did not want to miss celebrating this special day this year.

As the day surely marked a reason to celebrate, this was an opportune time for us at WFWP Fiji to invite women and give them the platform to engage in some dialogue while celebrating Women's Day.

The program included messages from Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, Co-founder of WFWPI, video messages from women in business and leadership including the Fijian Minister for Women, Hon. Rosy Akbar and WFWP Oceania President, Anne Bellavance. The Minister in her message had acknowledged the WFWP Fiji President and recognized the work being done by WFWP.

Every woman present at this celebration also had a chance to speak and share their views on the 2022 theme, “Break the Bias.” Our motivational speaker, Dr. Bernadette Pushpangaeli, a graduate of London University and the President of the Dental Association in Fiji shared her personal life experiences and gave a very inspiring talk to all the women. Participants included women from teens to seniors from all sectors, including the medical fraternity, education, domestic, religious organizations, and etc. The two-hour program concluded with a wonderful dinner and photoshoot with all the amazing women wearing shades of purple.
