LAUNCHING OF THE GLOBAL WOMEN PEACE NETWORK IN AFRICA

The Global Women Peace Network (GWPN) launched in Africa on October 22, 2022.

The event was held via Zoom and was attended by women leaders and partners from Africa and various countries. The theme was, “Women as the Turning Point for Peace.”

The goals and objectives of the event were to introduce the GWPN to WFWP members in Africa and their partners to create a place where networking and partnerships can be nurtured with top women leaders in institutions, academia, civil society, business, and religious groups.

The host for the event was Mrs. Flory Ledwaba the Regional Secretary General of Africa.

A video of Dr. Julia Moon, President of WFWPI, launching GWPN in the USA was shown to open the event. After that, Mrs. Marthe Whyte, the director of the West Africa Sub-Region, read Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon’s speech during GWPN’s initial launch on July 12, 2012.

The introduction of the GWPN was given by Dr. Susan Kone the International Vice President of WFWP Africa, followed by the presentation on the Global Peace Ambassador Award by Mrs. Fogue Bernadette the Director of Education for WFWP Africa.

After entertainment was held, a reciting of the resolution was done by Hon. Erinah Runtangye, the Secretary General of WFWP Uganda. Mrs. Everlyn Chimfwembe, the South African Sub-Region Director, led the crowd in cheers for the event. Mrs. Carroline Mulanga, the Sub-Regional Director of Central Africa, gave the closing remarks and the event concluded with a prayer led by Mrs. Albina Tanui President of WFWP Somalia. The launch paved the way for the chapters in Africa to set the network in motion and kick off various programs.
