WFWP Malaysia was invited to participate in the national celebration of International Women's Day on March 8, organized by the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development of Malaysia at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Center in Selangor. The celebration this year themed "Women Exalted, Nation Glorious," aimed to honor women as catalysts for national excellence, aligning with the aspirations of the government in creating an inclusive community,

The Prime Minister of Malaysia officiated the event, His Excellency Anwar bin Ibrahim, who was accompanied by his wife and also Hon. Nancy Shukri, the Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development. More than 3000 participants from all walks of life gathered at the convention center to observe the celebration. The Prime Minister in his speech emphasized that the government would ensure that relevant policies are drawn up to ensure that every aspect of women’s rights continue to be upheld.

The one-day program included a session on Anti-Sexual Harassment Advocacy, an explanation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), a discussion on "Zero Tolerance on Violence against Women", a forum on "Women of Madani Aspiration" and exhibition and sales by women entrepreneurs and NGOs. There were also self-defense demonstrations and live talk shows featuring outstanding women leaders.

"The national celebration is dedicated to acknowledging and promoting the achievements of women across the country, irrespective of their background, ethnicity, language, culture, economic status, or even political affiliation," said Hon. Nancy Shukri. WFWP Malaysia sent a delegation of five members led by its President, Mrs. Lina Cheng.

“I was amazed by the size of the crowd and was touched to see that many parties are concerned about the welfare and issues faced by women. The speakers provided a lot of interesting and useful knowledge on empowering women. The booths at the exhibition also provided opportunities for local women to showcase and promote their skills and products. It was a very meaningful event,” said Wan Yee Choong.

The International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on March 8th and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
