International Women’s Day 2022 Commemoration (WFWP Kenya)

Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Kenya commemorated International Women’s Day with various women groups who had gathered to listen to the message. The theme of the Event was “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow.” The goal and objectives were to first, join women around the world in commemorating the day, second, create a forum where women can come together and be introduced to the vision and mission of the WFWP and third, to network with each in order to create a formidable network of women for peace and development In the communities and in the nation.

The women in attendance were from 10 community-based organizations (CBOs) and Self-Help Groups from the outskirts of Nairobi and precisely in Embakasi central, who came together to celebrate the day.

Mrs. Winnie Njoroge, Coordinator of Women Groups, was the host and a representative from the Local Member of Parliament Hon. Benjamin Gathiru Mwangi was also in attendance. The program included speeches from various leaders, entertainment and networking among the attendees. Dr. Susan Kone, Chairperson of WFWP Africa, gave the introduction of WFWP as an NGO in General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Mrs. Caroline Oidho, the National Programs coordinator in her intervention urged women to work together as a network and in partnership to enhance the work that they are doing in the field. The women were also encouraged to join the Mother’s Heart Peace Network to become peace associates who can contribute towards peace in their families, communities and nations.
The event was lively with lots of singing and dancing as the leaders celebrated the achievements of women all over the world and especially in Africa where women have been marginalized and discriminated against, yet they have risen above all those challenges and paved the way forward for the future generations.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Winnie Njoroge supported the vision and mission of WFWP and expressed confidence that women can achieve more in a short time when they are united. The event ended on a high note with the women making a resolve to unite and work together in peace and harmony.
