  7. Aims and Activities: The aim of Women's Federation for World Peace International is to realize a peaceful and harmonious global family. WFWP's four major focuses are: empowerment of women worldwide; the reinforcement of family values; a sound upbringing of children, and building partnerships for peace through cooperation of women. In order to achieve these aims, we have been promoting and developing two major activities worldwide which are: poverty eradication projects targeting the empowerment of women and children; and the peace-building "Bridge of Peace" sisterhood project. Poverty Eradication Projects are service projects including building and running schools and vocational centers; micro-credit programmes, foster parents and scholarship programs, agriculture and food aid, education programs for AIDS prevention, sanitation and nutrition guidance and medical aid.

    2001:      
    March 20-April 27: 
    57th Commission on Human Rights (CHR) at UN HQ Geneva, 3 attended, and submitted one oral statement (Item 17: Promotion and Protection of Human Rights)  by WFWPI and two joint oral statements (Item 10: Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and Item 12: Integration of the Human Rights of Women).

    March 12:  UN Conference on Disarmament at UN HQ, Geneva, 1 attended and submitted one oral statement on "Women and Disarmament" from the NGO Working Group on Peace task force on Women's Day  Seminar.

    May 29-31:  Invited to an informal session of NGOs on Education, Conflict Prevention and Post Conflict Peace-building in Africa organized by the Office of the Special Coordination for Africa and Least Developed Countries (OSCAL) of DESA, 3 attended and made oral presentation at UN HQ, NY.

    June 11-15: Preparation Committee for SSGA on Children 3rd Substantive session at UN HQ, NY, 1 attended.

    June 25-27: SSGA on HIV/AIDS at UN HQ, NY, 1 attended.

    July25-Aug 13:  Sub-Commission on Promotion and Protection of Human Rights at UN HQ, Geneva, 2 attended.

    2002: 

    March 10: UN Conference on Disarmament at UN HQ, Geneva , 2 attended, submitted a joint statement on "Women and Disarmament" from the NGO Working Group on Peace task force on Women's Day Seminar.

    July 29-Aug 16:  Sub-Commission on Promotion and Protection of Human Rights at UN HQ, Geneva , 1 attended and submitted an oral joint statement on "Gender, HR and Poverty".

    Conference on Launching of Literacy Decade, Education for All (2003-2012) at UN HQ, NY, 1 attended.

    March-April: 59th CHR at UN HQ, Geneva, 1 attended, submitted 2 written statements (Items 8: Question of the Violation of Human Rights in the Occupied Arab Territories, Including Palestine and 17: Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, Information and Education) and 1 oral joint statement (Item 9: Question of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in any part of the World).

    March 24: ECOSOC High Level Segment Preparation Meeting at UN HQ, NY, 1 attended.

    April 14: Special High Level Meeting of ECOSOC at UN HQ, NY, 1 attended.

    March 15-April 23: 60th CHR at UN HQ, Geneva , 6 attended, submitted a written statement (Item 7: The Right to Development) and an oral joint statement (Item 12: Integration of the Human Rights of Women).

      March 18:
       Invited Ms. Kiyoko Ikegami, Director of UNFPA Tokyo Office as a speaker to WFWP Japan's National Conference of Directors.

      July 12:   Invited Prof. Akiko Yamanaka, Guest Professor of UNU as a Keynote Speaker to Symposium on International Cooperation in Hokkaido , Japan (130 attended.)

      Sept 12-14:   Invited Mr. Asner Ryhl, Chief of UNFPA Nordic Office as speaker on "UN/Civil Society, Women's Rights/Empowerment of Women and the Role of the UNFPA" at WFWP Europe Annual Regional Conference in Holland (100 attended.)

      Sept 11: Cosponsored the NGO Midday Workshop at the 55th DPI/NGO Conference  on "Promoting Reconciliation and Peace-Building: NGO Roles and Experiences" at UN HQ, NY. (100 attended.)

      Cosponsored with UN ESCAP, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand Government and other NGOs, the Conference on 10th Anniversary of the International Day of Family at UN Conference Center, Bangkok , (1,000 attended.)

      Sept 10: Cosponsored the NGO Midday Workshop at the 57th DPI/NGO Conference on "the Role of NGOs in Overcoming Poverty through Education" at UN HQ, NY. (100 attended.)

      Sept 24: Cosponsored with UN Department of Drug and Crime (UNODC) and NGO Committee on Peace in Vienna , A Workshop on "NGO and UN Cooperation and the Perspective of UNODC" at UN International Conference Center in Vienna . (100 attended.)


    3. Humanitarian or Technical Assistance Projects:   

      2002 
      May: 
      WFWP Guinea-Bissau's School Project. A Sewing Class of School of Hope received 7 sewing machines from UNICEF of Guinea-Bissau Office.

      July: WFWP Guinea-Bissau's School Project, a Literacy Class of School of Hope received 30 textbooks from UNDP Guinea-Bissau Office.


    4. Financial Assistance Received From or granted to the UN Bodies: 

      March 2003-Dec 2004: 
      WFWP Uganda received $50,000.00 from UNDP/GET Small Grant for the Integrated Family Development Initiatives which improved household income of 400 participating families from $200.00 per year to $2,000.00 per year.

      2001 March 19: Donation of $4,570.00 presented to UNDP El Salvador Office for the victims of big earthquake.

      2002 April 4: Donation of $3,330.00 presented to UNHCR for Aid of Afghan Refugees.

      2003 June 3: Donation of $3,000.00 presented to UNDP Kenya Office for the flood victims.

    Oct 7: 
    Sponsored Commemorative Symposium on UN's International Year of Volunteer of 2001 entitled "Living as Global Citizen" in Okayama , Japan . 70 attended.

    Nov 8: Sponsored the promotion rally for International Year of Volunteers 2001 entitled "Let's Expand the Circle of Volunteers" in Nara , Japan (1,200 attended). Keynote Speaker was Ms. Misako Konno, UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, and actress.

    2002

    Dec 2:  Cosponsored with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Mozambique to the UN the Second Forum on the Eradication of Poverty: A Follow-up to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) at UN HQ, New York (300 attended). Speakers from UN System were Ambassador of Mozambique, H.E. Mr. Carlos Dos Santos, Mr. Desmond Johns, Director of UNAIDS, NY Office, Ms. Vanessa Tobin from UNICEF, Ambassador of Malawi H.E. Dr. Isaac Lamba and Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for UN OHRLLS, Mr. Anwarul K. Chowdhury.

    2003

    May 14: 
    Cosponsored a One-day Seminar with other NGOs on International Day of the Family entitled "Our Family, Empowerment and Development" at UN Conference Center, Bangkok (380 attended).

    Dec 5: 
    Cosponsored with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Mozambique to the UN, the Third Forum on the Eradication of Poverty "Globalization and Eradication of Poverty".  The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were introduced in the program at UN HQ, NY. (400 attended). Speakers from UN System were: Under-Secretary-General Mr. Anwarul K. Chowdhury, Ambasador of Mozambique H.E. Mr. Philippe Chidumo, Ms. Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Director of UNIFEM, Ms. Yvette Stevens, Director for Africa , Office of the Special Advisor on Africa of UN, and Ms. Florence Chenoweth, Director of FAO, New York Office.

    2004

    Sponsored a Series of Special Seminars on Building A Culture of Peace to commemorate the International Decade for A Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010) in Japan, on July 10 in Hokkaido (107 attended), Sept 17 in Hokkaido (20 attended), Sept 25 in Okayama (60 attended), and on Nov 13 in Tokyo (78 attended).

    Sept 21: Sponsored Commemorative Seminar on International Day of Peace entitled "Hoping for Peace in the Middle East" at Hiroshima , Japan (90 attended).
